Mediation
Conflict in the workplace is common and despite our best efforts sometimes things don’t go quite to plan. In these cases, it can be great to get in an external mediator to assist in resolving conflicts or disagreements. This is a more informal and flexible approach to disciplinary procedures.
How it works
Mediation typically begins with an initial session for each of the participants with the mediator. The mediator explains the process, gives them the opportunity to share their stories and helps them to start looking at what they want to achieve from mediation.
We then come together for a joint meeting where issues are explored and participants have the opportunity to express how they feel. There is time to brainstorm options until participants reach a solution all are happy with. The mediator can help to write up any agreement and ensure all participants understand the expectations of each other moving forward.
It is recommended that a further joint session is held a few weeks later to make sure relationships are on track with the agreement.
